WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME.

1 in 2 men & 1 in 3 women

WILL BE DIAGNOSED WITH CANCER IN THEIR LIFETIME.

Thanks in part to our efforts, there has been a 23% decline in the cancer death rate over the past 21 years. That’s 1.7 million deaths prevented and more than 11 million cancer survivors alive today. In fact today, more of us are surviving cancer than dying from it. Yet, today, 1 in 3 women and 1 in 2 men will get cancer in their lifetimes. The American Cancer Society wants to drive cancer into insignificance. And volunteers like you make that possible.

53% OF THE AMERICAN CANCER SOCIETY'S
2 MILLION VOLUNTEERS ARE UNDER THE AGE OF 35.

When you support the American Cancer Society, you help us save lives and celebrate life. You join millions of others who are committed to achieving our vision of a world free from the pain and suffering of cancer. And you are making a tangible difference - helping to make more progress and change the statistics once and for all.

Whether you advocate for lifesaving change, honor a lost loved one, fund groundbreaking research, motivate communities to act, deliver crucial patient services, or simply listen to someone's journey, we all have the ability to make an impact.

Why ACS?

A Good Steward of the Donor Dollar

74¢ OF EVERY DOLLAR GOES TO CANCER RESEARCH, PATIENT SUPPORT, PREVENTION INFORMATION AND EDUCATION, AND DETECTION AND TREATMENT INFORMATION.

26¢ OF EVERY DOLLAR FUELS SUPPORTING SERVICES FOR OUR LIFE-SAVING WORK TO MANAGE AND FUND THOSE PROGRAMS.

CANCER RESEARCH

  • No single nongovernmental, not-for-profit organization in the US has invested more to find the causes and cures of cancer: $4 billion since 1946
  • Currently, we are investing in more than $450 million in over 50 types of cancer research
  • We invest in innovative and visionary research and our track record is proven, having funded 47 scientists who have gone on to be Nobel Laureates

PATIENT SUPPORT

  • Through Patient Navigators who guide patients on their journey to our Cancer Survivors Network that provides a safe online connection to a supportive network, we are there for those diagnosed with cancer every step of the way
  • The Reach To Recovery program pairs breast cancer patients with volunteers who had similar diagnoses and treatment plans to provide more personal, one-on-one support
  • Since 2005, specially trained volunteers have provided 6.3 million free rides for cancer patients to and from treatment-related medical appointments through the Road to Recovery Program, breaking down a barrier to care for many
  • Our 32 Hope Lodges provide a free place to stay for patients and a caregiver when treatment is far from home, saving over 550,000 patients more than $466 million in lodging costs

PREVENTION, INFORMATION, AND EDUCATION

  • We’ve been fighting tobacco use for more than 50 years and are now taking on the changing landscape of tobacco control by creating the ACS Center for Tobacco Control
  • Over 700 employers and 27 state agencies utilize the Quit For Life program that matches participants with a coach and a personalized quit plan for their tobacco use
  • Our National Cancer Information Center (800.227.2345 and cancer.org) connects people with cancer information, clinical trial matching services, health insurance assistance, transportation and lodging requests – or just a compassionate ear. We respond to over 1 million inquiries a year via phone, email and chat in multiple languages.

DETECTION & TREATMENT INFORMATION

  • Colon cancer is the second leading cause of cancer death and we are leading the charge to increase screening rates to 80% by 2018 by removing barriers of cost, transportation, and resistance to colon cancer screening tests .
  • Our CHANGE Grant program promotes health equity by facilitating corporate investments of $26 million in 350 community grants. As a result, we’ve funded 518,000 low or no-cost cancer screenings in underserved communities.
